Question. I’ve been lifting for like 9 months, I weigh 230 lbs and I can bench 6 plates, so i’m in no way a pussy. I just cant do non assisted pullups or chinups. I’m looking to lose some belly fat and what could i do to replace these?
Why not try decline pull ups/chin ups? Or TRX strap chin ups? If you’ve never heard of TRX straps there are a ton of videos here on YouTube.

benching and pull ups use two entirely different muscle groups. Don’t think that because you’re strong in one area, it applies all over. Just keep doing your pull ups/chins. You’ll get stronger. Don’t forget your quads! Good luck!

this is not better then any cardio exercise. just the typical meat head that probably doesnt do much cardio because he is to lazy or doesnt have the cardiovascular endurance to partake in long vigirious runs. check out greg plitt, a real trainer that knows what he is talking about

you can’t burn fat without cardio. burning fat is an aerobic process. building muscle is anaerobic. true by building muscle mass you’ll burn more calories during the day via increasing resting metabolic rate, however you won’t be burning body fat.
the fact that he’s out of breath means he’s elavated his heart rate and requires more oxygen….this is cardio!!! however he didn’t sustain it for very long.
you can’t lose weight and build muscle at the same time. two opposing principles. only one or the other.

This is not entirely true. I went from 190lbs down to 145lbs in 2004, in a 6 month period, with a strict diet and split routine 3days on, 1 day off, rinse-repeat weightlifting.
In 2008 i was back up to 185, and Jan 1 2009, I started the same deal again. Diet and weightlifting. We are now toward the end of March, and I am 167 lbs.
I don’t jog, run, swim, nothing. Of course, those things are good for your heart and for blood circulation, but you can lose weight just fine with a proper diet.
The comment below is directed at “mrdamien”, on the assumption that weights alone don’t promote weight loss.
The difference is you are burning cals all during the recovery period between muscle groups (while you rest/sleep..etc.), that means you are losing body fat.
When you jog, all you burn is for the half our or hour / 2 hours that you put into it. Nothing is happening once you’ve stopped.
That being said, it can speed your progress if you are doing all 3. Diet, weights & cardio.
Your right. You cant lose weight and build muscle, but you can lose FAT and build muscle at the same time.
